Bumbo vs. Bebe Pod Baby SeatsBaby Seat Comparison of Bumbo and Bebe Pod
Bumbos and Bebe Pods were recently introduced, and both travel well and provide a place to put baby quickly. Here is a comparison of Bumbo vs. the Bebe Pod.
Both products essentially do the same thing. They provide a secure place to quickly set a baby down, and both help babies transition into sitting. They are great for travel, as they are lightweight, cram nicely into the trunk and provide a place to set down a baby in typically baby-unfriendly hotel rooms. Here is a rundown of the Bumbo vs. the Bebe Pod, with the winner in each category and a recommended winner overall. Bumbo vs. Bebe Pod as Secure Seat - Winner: Bumbo The Bumbo is more curvy on the inside, and provides a tighter fit for babies placed inside. The Bebe Pod by comparison is rather secure, but doesn't fit a baby in as snug a manner. Particularly when babies are very young and just old enough to use a positioning baby seat, they might have a tougher time sitting upright easily in the Bebe Pod. (Neither should be used before a baby can hold his or her head up). Bumbo vs. Bebe Pod on Price - No Winner Both retail for about $40, and both can be found sometimes for a few bucks cheaper. If price is an issue, it shouldn't affect your decision. Neither one is particularly cheaper than the other. Bumbo vs. Bebe Pod on Longevity - Winner: Bebe Pod While the Bumbo does better with the youngest babies, Bebe Pod lasts longer. Since it isn't as snug, it allows for a baby's chubby little thighs as they get older. The Bebe Pod simply has more space inside its encompassing interior to allow for bigger babies to fit inside comfortably. Bumbo vs. Bebe Pod on Comfort - No Winner Since it's a bit hard for an adult to test comfort, I can only refer to my own babies' experiences. I have twins, and I owned both the Bumbo and the Bebe Pod. One twin preferred the Bumbo, and one twin preferred the Bebe Pod. I've heard similar stories from other twin moms. It seems to be a personal preference. If you have access to both, or can place your baby inside one at the store without prompting a meltdown, that is probably the only way to learn which one your baby finds most comfortable. Both are made of a soft and flexible, but firm, material. Bumbo vs. Bebe Pod on Safety - No Winner They both have faced criticism for safety issues, but this really only occurs when parents place babies in one of the baby seats on an elevated surface (don't!), and a baby flips out and falls. Parents should never leave a baby on a high surface, whether the baby is loose, in a car seat, in a bouncy seat, or in anything. This really isn't any indictment on the products, and is a safety measure that should always be taken. The main issue with the baby positioners is that babies don't get strapped inside. That's part of the reason they are so handy. The phone rings, and you can quickly put baby somewhere secure. One day, your baby will get strong enough to arch his or her back and flip out. Be sure you keep the Bumbo or Bebe Pod on a soft surface like carpet, and on the floor. Bumbo vs. Baby Pod Overall - Winner: Bumbo These two products are actually both very impressive, and a big leap in improvement over the past and the limits of bouncy seats. It is not easy to pick a winner, and most parents will hardly find a reason to prefer one over the other. If there is a slight edge, it goes to the Bumbo. This is simply due to it providing extra support for young babies, and fitting babies more tightly. That, in turn, makes for a safer and more secure baby seat. If you will buy one, try to hit your local store and pull each out of the box to make your own choice. If you have twins, I would suggest buying the Bumbo first. Then, see if both babies like using it. If they do, go get the Bebe Pod as your second baby seat.
