Celebration vacations are a new travel trend, and certainly a fun one. Plan a celebration vacation getaway to enjoy your birthday, anniversary or holiday while traveling.

Of course, the idea of traveling for a special occasion or celebration wasn't just invited. It just became trendy. Still, there are many reasons why a Celebration Vacation is a wonderful way to spend a special day.

What is a Celebration Vacation?

A celebration vacation is, quite simply, a vacation that is done for a celebration. Simple as that. It's most well-known as a birthday vacation, but there are many good reasons to take a celebration vacation. They include anniversaries and holidays as well. Basically, any reason to celebrate - bar mitzvah, graduation, you name it - is a reason to take a Celebration Vacation.

Disney's Celebration Vacation

Disney Parks are probably the first to jump on board the Celebration Vacation trend in a big way. Anyone who visits a Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort theme park in 2009 gets in free on their birthday.

For kids, this is a fun way to spend a birthday. For parents, visiting on your birthday or a child's is a way to save the price of a ticket. Better yet, moms of twins and higher order multiples can save a significant amount.

As the term gains popularity, it's also possible some other resorts, theme parks, major attractions and hotel chains could come up with similar deals and packages.

Celebration Vacation Tips

There is no doubt that a celebration vacation can be a fun way to spend an event or milestone. here are some considerations before you book that Celebration Vacation, however.

  • Consider heavily the impact on the child of traveling at that time. That isn't to say you shouldn't, but some children might prefer to spend their birthdays or holidays like Christmas close to friends and family. If they travel at that time, they could miss some sought-after celebrations locally and at their school.
  • As an alternative to actually traveling on the date of the event, birthday, holiday or anniversary, a Celebration Vacation can also take place near or around the date. That could be a way to get the best of both worlds at home and on the road. It could also be a way to avoid traffic (for holidays) and possibly higher costs.
  • Discuss the plans with the entire family to way the pros and cons of the decision to celebrate away from home. For many, this is an ideal way to celebrate. For others, they might prefer something more low-key.
  • Consider how travel expenses will impact other expenses. It is typical for a celebration to have its own mix of expenses, such as gifts and parties. Just be sure you are prepared for a possible budget double whammy with the cost of the celebration and the vacation.
