You Can't Bring These Christmas Presents on an Airplane
When you fly over Christmas and the holidays, be careful which Christmas presents you pack. Some very popular gift items are banned on airplanes. Find out what's banned.
The Transportation Security Administration has strict rules that make it quite difficult to fly with Christmas presents or gifts anytime of year.
Here are the Christmas presents and gifts that have restrictions or are banned:
- Food items gifts, including jams, salsas, sauces, syrups and dips, are banned from carry-on baggage unless they are in containers three ounces or less and also inside the passenger’s one quart zip-top bag, or unless it was purchased after you passed the security checkpoint.
- Snow globes are not allowed in your carry-on if they contain three ounces or more of liquid (and how often do you even know how much liquid is in a snow globe). This is even the case if the snow globe is in a sealed package.
- Perfume and colognes are banned from carry-on bags allowed unless it is under three ounces.
- Bath and body gifts including lotions, creams, scented oil and liquid soaps are banned from carry-on luggage unless it is under three ounces.
- Knives and other weapons will not be allowed in your carry-on. Many times these can be gifts, such as nice pocket knives, decorative swords, pellet guns or chef's knives.
- Sporting goods and equipment, which can be popular gifts for children or even for sports memorabilia collectors, are not allowed in your carry-on luggage. This includes baseball bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks and ski poles.
- Tools, such as drills, tools 7" or longer and saws are banned from carry-on, but screwdrivers and wrenches are allowed.
