A new honeymoon phenomenon for second and later marriages is taking a familymoon instead of the traditional couples-only honeymoon, bringing the kids of both families.
According to the Stepfamily Association of America, 65 percent of all remarriages involve children from previous marriages. This has evolved into the new familymoon trend, in which marrying couples bring their children on the honeymoon.
Destination weddings that segue into a familymoon are also popular.
Here are some of the top familymoon destinations:
- Tradewinds Resort St. Pete in Florida, for instance, offers special familymoon packages featuring a two-bedroom suite, sunset sail, and offer a wide variety of children's activities. The package also includes the DVD, "Yours, Mine & Ours," a comedy starring Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo that focuses on blended families.
- Disneyworld in Orlando is also a top familymoon destination. Clearly, there are endless things to preoccupy the kids here. There are also plenty of adult activities here, as well as hotels and resorts that provide babysitting and other kid activities.
- Circus Circus Las Vegas combines a popular wedding destination with a kid-friendly casino hotel.
- Grand Wailea Resort & Spa in Hawaii is ideal for the couple seeking the adult-friendly honeymoon, with spa treatments, cocktails and fine dining. This is complemented by the 20,000-square-foot Club Grande, where kids ages 5-12 make kites and Hawaiian leis.
- Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa in Hawaii features a familymoon package with adjoining rooms, childcare included, and a 40-minute massage.

Hmm, what an interesting article! A lot of good resources too. Thanks,
Kelby. I know of a great resort that has a lot of family options
including day camp for little ones, and horseback riding, nature trails for
older kids, plus some great massages and body treatments for the
parents.The <a

What a fantastic opportunity for bonding! As a marriage officiant (in my
voluminous spare time) I have performed many ceremonies that involve
blended sets of children (and even added blended set of PETS in some
cermonies). Having a familymoon is a super nice idea to get families off on
the right foot. It's nice to acknowledge people in a "sacred"
way...everyone feels validated.

I'll bet it does make a great transition, especially for the kids who may
have mixed emotions about the whole situation. What a great way to solidify
the establishment of a new family... so much nicer than excluding the kids.
Of course, you'll have much less intimacy and couples time than people have
on a typical honeymoon... but once you have kids, you pretty well wave
bye-bye to that except for stolen moments anyway. hehe.

By the way, the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa just received an annual award for
Best Family Resort, or something like that. Hold on, I'll check the
website, be right back... Jen

Kelby – I'm a freealncer looking for familymooners to interview for a
feature. You don't happen to know of any Canadians willing to talk about
their familymooning experience?
Thanks

I sure don't, but you might want to contact some of the resorts that offer
familymoon packages. I'll bet they can put you in touch with a family.
