When a new baby arrives, it is hard for the first child to adjust to the sudden shift of attention. Reconnect with your firstborn by taking a first childmoon vacation.

Your first child has a lot to cope with when a new baby arrives. Your firstborn was the center of mom and dad's attention for his or her entire life until this new life entered the picture. Even the most loving and sweet first child will have a tough time adjusting. Think of it as a babymoon with your first child.

Reasons for a First Childmoon

There are a few great reasons to plan a first childmoon. Here are some of the main reasons:

Vacation Ideas for a First Childmoon

Choose your destination carefully, as it's important both the parents and the child enjoy themselves. Look for family vacation destinations that provide plenty of kid-friendly activities.

Also look for a destination that will allow your first child to feel grown up, whether it's something new like a spa treatment or a first roller coaster ride. This will reinforce the idea that the first child is a big kid now, and there are benefits and pros to being the older child.

Take-Aways from the First Childmoon

This first childmoon isn't just about getting away from the baby, but it's also an opportunity to address issues related to the new baby without the interruption of crying.

Use this opportunity to talk to your child (even a young child) about how they feel. Allow your first child to buy a souvenir for the baby, or create something for the baby. Ask your child to think of great trip ideas for the next trip, and stress that this one will be with the baby.

You can also use this time to come up with ways to continue special bonding times with the child, whether it's one-on-one time going with a parent to the store on weekends or special bedtime routines with the parents.
