Ottawa's largest annual community event, SuperEX, returns to Lansdowne Park with lower prices, awesome attractions and an impressive list of concerts and special events.
This year’s SuperEX is the most affordable family event in Canada's capital with children under 12 paying only $5 and adults just $10. Admission into the SuperEX offers free outdoor concert events and rides which can be accessed with coupons or all-day passes for $36. The grounds open at 11:30 a.m. and close at midnight. Rides start at noon. SuperEX runs from August 20th to 30th, 2009. For the Whole FamilySuperEX rides have been specifically designed for the safety and fun for children of all ages. Children have the option of being measured at midway ticket booths as well as having their parents tag along for the ride. Adults and kids can also look forward to some new rides such as the Monkey Maze, Haunted Mansion, Fireball, Tornado and Venetian Swing Carousel – the Waveswinger. SuperEX AttractionsLooking to dive off the deep end? The SuperEX High Dive Show will thrill fair-goers with five high dive dare devils jumping 80 feet into a shallow pool of water! If that isn’t enough adrenaline, the Xtreme Wild Predator and Prey show features a vast array of wild animals such as tigers, wolves and panthers. A less extreme wildlife show, called “Endangered Ontario” features endangered species of reptiles from across Ontario. Strolling Acts Throughout SuperEX GroundsWhile fair-goers take in the many sights and sounds throughout SuperEX, traveling entertainers will wander the grounds showing off their unique talents for free. Dan, the One Man Band is an eight- instrument musician who loves telling jokes in between songs while les Circ-U-L’Air, an acrobatic troupe, promises to mesmerize crowds with their amazing pyrotechnic techniques. Kate Mior will dazzle fair-goers through the portrayal of a variety of still-life characters as “the Living Statue”. SuperEX Indoor FunNot all SuperEX fun can be found outdoors. The Rogers TV, Sports, Leisure and Recreation Pavilion offers loads of fun for everyone with a variety of events such as Board Game Day (Aug. 23), Yoga Day (Aug. 24), Museum Day (Aug. 25), and Psychic Fair Day (Aug. 27). Other demonstrations include Roller Derby, Ball Hockey, Futsal, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Geocaching, Freestyle Soccer and Martial Arts. Animals and Petting ZooIn the historical Aberdeen Pavilion, the Rona Pure Country Pavilion will exhibit daily agricultural demonstrations such as the Birds of Prey Show, Monalea Petting Zoo, sheep shearing and a miniature horse drawn wagon that rides daily at noon. Country singers Brett Baker will take the stage daily throughout the SuperEX event while the Mississippi Girls perform from August 23 to the 30th. SuperEX Super Stage Free Concert SeriesThis year’s acts include Vancouver’s Aaron Pritchett, Rock group Prism , award- winning Danny Fernandes as well as Bedouin Soundclash, Faber Drive, and April Wine. SuperEX also offers tribute concerts featuring songs from the Rolling Stones, Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, Demi Lovato, Abba Mania and Tina Turner. Play Poker at the SuperEX“Experience the Poker!” The World Poker Depot Freeroll Poker Tournament boasts the number one free roll tournament Ottawa has to offer. SuperEX will include a 5000 seat free roll with the Heads Up Tournament beginning at noon on the day the SuperEX opens. The top 1024 will play down to the top 256 live at the SuperEX and return at August 28th to declare one champion. SuperEX Promoting Good CausesOttawa will kick off its One Change Fuel Conservation Campaign with local celebrities and dignitaries on August 20th. On Monday August 24th, SuperEX will host a series of interactive events and prizes in honour of Organ Donation Awareness Day. At 5 p.m., fair-goers can also take part in the creation of the largest green ribbon. These events will take place at the Kidney Foundation’s booth at the SuperEX. SuperEX Youth Talent ContestBeginning August 21st, auditions will be held at Aberdeen Pavilion, Lansdowne Park for the 28th Anniversary “Stars on the Rise” Youth Talent Contest. Anyone between the ages of 10 to 25 will get the chance to showcase their talent with the winner opening for a recorded artist at SuperEX 2010. Cash Prizes include $1200 first prize for ages 10 to 13 contestants and $250 for ages 14 to 25. Free Stuff and Cool Deals at Super EXFree events at the SuperEX also include Free Opening Day, Free Kids Day (August 25th) and Free Seniors Day (August 26th). A 2 for 1 Date Night Coupon can be picked up at participating Pizza Pizza outlets as well as a Dr. Pepper Advanced Passport at participating Quickie Convenience Stores. Cartier Place Suite Hotel is offering $99 per night that includes free parking and SuperEX discounts. Children under 16 can stay for free.
