It seems family travel catch phrases just keep popping up. The latest one, the procreation vacation, is not a new concept. It's a vacation for couples trying to conceive.

There's been lots of buzz about babymoons after conception (or even after baby arrives), and even familymoons for two already-born families coming together through marriage. Now the attention is turning towards those couples who don't have the family yet (or who hope for a bigger one). Here are some tips for planning a procreation vacation.

Procreation Vacation Destinations

You will want a place that is romantic, of course, but also one that will be enjoyable for both people. Several destinations and hotels are catering to couples trying to conceive with unique procreation vacation packages, including:

  • Westin Grand Bahama Island's Procreation Vacation, which includes a drink for him noted for its aphrodisiac properties, pumpkin soup known by island locals to promote fertility for her, a couples massage and an in-room dinner for two.
  • Five Gables Inn & Spa's Procreation Vacation on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland includes a couples massage, oysters and wine at a local pub, and a suite with a double whirlpool tub, Swedish shower, gas fireplace and Barry White playing on the CD.
  • Teton Mountain Lodge's Procreation Ski Vacation, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in a suite with a fireplace and dining area, two days of skiing, a dogsled trip, couples spa treatment at the Teton Mountain Lodge Spa, candle-lit dinner for two made to order by Cascade Grill House served on your night of choice in the your room and chilled champagne and chocolates in your room on arrival.

Pick the Right Time

If you will just be getting away for a weekend, timing and planning is crucial. You might consider researching methods for predicting ovulation so that the time will be right. If you are booking far in advance, ask about any flexibility to reschedule.

Who Will Go on the Conception Vacation?

This may seem obvious, but there may be situations in which you aren't sure if it will just be the couple or others will go along. If you already have children, you might consider getting a babysitter so you can get some true alone time. But so long as they have a separate room and you can get some time alone, that isn't mandatory.

You might even consider meeting up with another couple for the vacation so you can have some friendly just-hanging-out time during the day, and special couple time at night. That could even take off some of the pressure of the whole purpose of the vacation.

Have Fun, Most of All

Don't set too high of expectations. Plan the trip, and look at it this way. If you conceive, great, and what a fun story later (maybe much later) for the child. If you don't, this was still a chance to do some crucial couple bonding time. Anything that reduces your stress level as a couple is helpful for those trying to conceive (which can get quite stressful).
