Each Park's guidemap provides a thumbnail sketch of available entertainment, attractions and dining. Use it to effectively plan the day.

Ticket in hand, its time to push through those turnstiles, enter the park and have an enjoyable day at the attraction. Use the Guidemap to visit the Walt Disney World Resort attractions: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios like a Florida native.

The Guidemap is the Key to Success

Immediately upon entering the park, pick up a Guidemap at Guest Services. The guidemaps are printed in numerous non-English languages from Spanish to Japanese. See which rides are crucial and where they are located. Start from the back of park and work forward. It is possible to get on numerous rides in those first two hours after the park opens if progress is made going back to front.

While walking through the park, pull a FASSPASS for any ride for which a wait is anticipated. For example, if in Magic Kingdom, pull a FASSPASS for Space Mountain and ride the other attractions until the reserved time. Keep an eye on the expiration time on the FASSPASS and pull another one as soon as one is able.

While standing in line, read the Guidemap. It provides important info as to basic navigation around the Parks and what to do if the car doesn’t start at the end of the day. Good news - complimentary towing is provided by AAA during Park hours.

Here are some Walt Disney World Resort Park specifics:

Magic Kingdom

Space Mountain is the most popular ride for adults. To see the inside of Space Mountain, take a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Space Mountain seems to be down for repairs frequently. If maintenance is working on or testing the ride, the lights inside the building will be on - it's possible to see exactly what it looks like. If the ride is operating, it's lights will be visible and there will be screaming – a lot of screaming.

Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are two other extremely popular rides. To do more than one park in a day, a choice might have to be made between Space Mountain and Splash Mountain. Use the FASSPASS to expedite entry onto these rides.

Animal Kingdom

The rollercoaster, Expedition Everest normally has very long wait times. Pull a FASSPASS immediately upon entering the park. Riding it alone? Consider the single rider lane. This lane normally moves very quickly, it might be quicker using this lane rather than using the FASSPASS system.

Animal Kingdom is only accessible from the other parks by bus. The bus ride from the Magic Kingdom takes approximately ½ hour.

Epcot

The big draw to Epcot is the World Showcase consisting of 11 countries. Try to schedule the day to include a meal at one of the countries. For example, in France dine on escargot, salads, beef and heavenly desserts at the Chefs de France restaurant. In addition, a trip to Epcot is not complete without going on the flagship ride, Spaceship Earth.

Hollywood Studios

The Great Movie Ride is a perennial favorite with guests as is The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. While at the back of this park by the Tower of Terror if roller coasters are on the agenda, don’t miss the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.

Not only should you use the park's guidemap wisely, but sketch out your touring plan before you leave home! Don't allow your family to wander aimlessly, arguing amongst themselves about which attraction or ride they want to do next. Guides like the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World can help with great touring itineraries! Good luck! -- Family Travel Girl

Maire Loughran :
excellent suggestions - also if you're doing disney more than 1 day - get the guidemap for all the theme parks at your first park so you can review those at night as well.

the last time I went to disney was over memorial day, spent one day at the compound and got to all four theme parks. using the single rider lane and the fasspass my son was able to ride everest three times and I only had to wait 1/2 hour for him to do space mountain.
