Great article about kids and beaches, Kelby! I especially liked your mentioning of Santa Barbara. It's a bit of a schlep to get from Santa Barbara to LA, though, and if families want to have a great time on a beautiful family-friendly beach, with the potential of star-spotting in LA just a hop away, I recommend Point Dume, Zuma, and Leo Carillo beaches in Malibu. Jump on in, the water quality's fine! happy PS I'm putting a link to this article in my next article.

Yeah. It's not too bad, though, if you live in L.A. I used to live near L.A., and it was only about a 3-hour drive to Santa Barbara... and well worth the effort. Those are some great beaches, too. I've also always been a fan of Newport Beach in Orange County, even though it is a bit overrun.

I know and love the west coast very well. What weird is that the water is pretty much always too cold for real swimming. West coast poeple go TO the beach but not really IN it. I remember things differently as a child in NY, where a day at Jones Beach was mostly spend IN the water.
