Family AdventuresRving With Babies

I actually asked about that myself, but apparently you can find RVs with spots for car seats. Certainly, you wouldn't want to travel any other way. I would also imagine, if you have a vehicle that can tow, you could get a pop-up to attach behind your vehicle. As far as sleeping, I know there are many products out there, from cosleepers to travel beds for infants. We traveled lots with our daughter before age 1, and always just took the travel playpen with us. You can get sheets for them, too.

And you mention two eight-month olds! I have twins, too, who are now four months old. Be sure you check out my article on travel with twins » EtPic - Seating What I just bought are the Peapods Travelbeds. I will use those in the RV, just don't know yet, if the car seats will fit on the couch. That would probably be the only place for two of those big seats. Is there no legal aspect to traveling with babies in the RV? How interesting, since so many people seem to do it.-- posted by EtPic

I'm actually about to review the Peapod bed, so let me know what you think of it. As far as the legality, I've always thought it's bizarre kids can travel on school buses without seatbelts. But just because it's legal doesn't mean it's safe. Does your couch have seat belts or a LATCH or some other way to secure to carseats? I wonder if they can be retrofitted to use with carseats? I would feel totally weird just having babies loose in the RV going down the road. On another thread here, we were talking about the exact same issue. » EtPic - Seating In response to the Peapod Beds. I think they are fun and the babies love them. They have not yet slept in them but just played in them. They are just like little tents with a blowup matress and a sleeping bag blanket. Perfect for the beach !!In the RV we have several places with seatbelts, I just have to take the seats in there sometimes and try it out, I guess. I did not know that kids don't have to put on seatbelts in school buses!!! WOW...what kind of a principal is that!!!! -- posted by EtPic » desertblue - Seating In response to Seating posted by EtPic:Re schoolbuses: It's safer for kids to not be seatbelted in, and the same with people sitting in the back of RVs. It doesn't sound intuitive but that's what the studies showed. I think it has to do with overturned buses - people/kids too high up when trapped upsidedown in seatbelts. Think about it. There were all kinds of issues and strangling going on. Buses with belts were flirted with and scrapped is what I heard. About RV accessories: Look at RV catalogues and they make all kinds of things for families and babies to have comfort and safety while traveling. Boomers are only JUST starting to get into it. Every time I travel, I am the only X-er RVing around. -- posted by desertblue

Interesting. It still sounds weird to me. I mean, how is that different than an overturned SUV or van? Or is it just that schoolbuses overturn easily? If so, that is quite a story!!! As far as the RV, this would also be a great question to post on the RV Travel site here at http://campingrving.suite101.com/. I'm sure Barry knows all about this... and he has a discussion board too at http://campingrving.suite101.com/discuss... I may do some checking myself. I can imagine an article on baby and child safety on RVs would be helpful!
