Have fun with smores recipes, James Rubio

Smores are such a campfire tradition that it is almost mandatory that you make smores when you camp with kids. Shake things up with creative smores recipes for kids.

Everyone has memorized the traditional smores recipe by age 8. You poke a stick through a marshmallow, hold over fire and hope it doesn't burst into flames. Insert said marshmallow between chocolate and graham crackers and eat.

Take your family's smores to the next level with these fun and creative smores recipes for camping kids. In fact, use this list as inspiration for the kids and ask them to come up with new variations of the classic smores.

Nilla Wafer, White Chocolate and Banana Smores

Put a half-banana on a stick and hold over campfire. Take two vanilla, or 'Nilla, wafers, insert chocolate and banana. Tasty, and even kind of pretty.

Fudge Stripes and Mini Marshmallow Smores

Why carry something extra camping if you don't have to? Bring some Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies, which conveniently come with both a shortbread cookie and chocolate coating on one side and some mini marshmallows.

Place the chocolate side up, and ring the mini marshmallows around the circle of the cookie. Place a second cookie chocolate side down (touching the marshmallows), and smoosh closed. Cook over your campfire until all melty and messy.

Healthy and Happy Strawberry, Dark Chocolate and Oatmeal Cookie Smores

This might sound like a kooky mix, but it is tasty (and kids will never know it's healthier than other smores). Get (or bake ahead) a whole wheat version of oatmeal cookies, which you can often find at organic and whole food stores. Bring fresh strawberries. Add dark chocolate, which is known to contain powerful antioxidants. Combine, cook and enjoy!

French Crepe, Nutella and Coconut Smores

Hey, a smore is basically a rugged version of the classic French crepe. Bring some small premade crepes, or even some white flour soft tortillas. Spread with Nutella, then sprinkle with coconut shavings. Roll up and roast.

Chocolate Chip Cookie, Marshmallow and Caramel-Filled Ghirardelli Smores

Get downright indulgent with this mix of oh-so bad but oh-so good ingredients. Heat your marshmallow over the fire. Place Ghirardelli or other caramel-filled and thin chocolates onto two oversized chocolate chip cookies. Place your marshmallow on top of one, and close like a sandwich. That is an extreme smore!

Don't stop there. Find a shell, something melty and chocolaty, and something else, and get creative. Have a great unusual smores recipe, or have your kids come up with something unique? Submit your smores camping recipe
